Dave is a seasoned college admissions advisor who brings a journalist’s curiosity, a teacher’s heart, and a storyteller’s skill to his work with students and families. A Pulitzer Prize–winning former reporter, David has covered education for U.S. News & World Report, The Boston Globe, and Newsday, and has coached CEOs as a writing consultant.
He is the author of Acceptance (Penguin Press), the definitive book on college admissions, which follows a legendary guidance counselor and seven students through their admissions journeys. His second book, What It Takes to Pull Me Through (Houghton Mifflin), explores the lives of struggling teens and the adults who help them persevere.
David’s clients have been accepted to a wide range of top colleges, including Harvard, Princeton, MIT, Northwestern, Duke, Georgetown, Bowdoin, Wesleyan, and USC. Dave has also taught at Deerfield Academy and traveled around the world - visiting 50 countries, supporting innovative global education initiatives.
An honors graduate of Brown University, David was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard and also studied at Universidad de Los Andes in Colombia. He’s fluent in Spanish and has lived in Mexico, Colombia, and Brazil. One of the most meaningful parts of his own education came through Spanish classes at a community college—an experience that shaped his deep respect for all learning journeys.
