a note from our founderThrive began with one struggling math student at a kitchen table — a bright kid who simply needed someone to slow down, see them clearly, and rebuild their confidence step by step. As I worked with more families, I saw the same pattern again and again: when a student feels understood and supported, everything shifts. They don’t just learn the material; they begin to believe in themselves.
That belief has shaped everything we do. Over the years, I’ve worked with learners of every age and profile — students who need steady academic coaching, teens navigating learning differences, and high‑achieving kids who want to stretch further. What they all share is the need for a guide who recognizes their strengths and helps them grow into them. Our family started utilizing Jean Marie Stein in 2016. She began by working with our son who has some learning disabilities. She was particularly patient with him, explained concepts in a way that made sense to him, and helped him develop problem solving strategies to succeed in Algebra 2 and Pre Calculus. He went on to graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in Secondary Education: Mathematics, and is currently a high school teacher in Vermont. Jean Marie continues to meet with our son as a mentor and an advisor, helping him with curriculum planning and classroom management strategies.
Jean Marie also worked with our twin daughters over a 4 year period. They were on an accelerated path throughout high school, always taking the hardest/honors level math classes. JM boosted their competence, and maybe more importantly, their confidence. She has techniques for diagnosing weaknesses, and follows up with exercises that address any lingering problems. She was able to manage their individual learning styles, and they both achieved outstanding grades and high scores on standardized tests.
JM knows the math, she's super organized, and maximizes every session. She's also particularly good at test prep, and our girls always felt fully prepared going into major exams.
