Jean Marie — Founder & Executive DirectorJean Marie brings a rare blend of analytical rigor, educational expertise, and real‑world problem‑solving to her work with students and families. She holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland and an M.A. in Mathematics Education from Teachers College, Columbia University.
Before founding Thrive Education Group, Jean Marie applied her engineering and analytical skills in some of the most demanding environments — from NASA to Wall Street — and ultimately to the place she found most meaningful: the high school mathematics classroom. Over nearly 15 years, she has taught in schools, coached hundreds of math students, and guided countless parents through the complexities of their child’s academic journey. In 2013, Jean Marie founded Thrive Education Group with a simple mission: to give students access to the highest standard of academic support. She personally selects each tutor on the Thrive team, ensuring that students from middle school through graduate school receive expert instruction paired with genuine care. Her work is grounded in a deep belief in growth mindset, strong relationships, and the transformative power of skilled, compassionate teaching. Jean Marie’s journey reflects her commitment to helping every student build confidence, independence, and the tools they need to thrive — in school and far beyond it. |
"Jean Marie has been both a mentor and friend to my children and family. From the moment she meets your child she uses her keen understanding of how people learn and what motivates them to set your child up for success. Combine that with her generosity of spirit and smart wit and you can see why we call her a "Unicorn." We can't say enough good things about her. Thank you Jean Marie for caring so deeply about your students. " Larchmont, NY
Our family started utilizing Jean Marie Stein in 2016. She began by working with our son who has some learning disabilities. She was particularly patient with him, explained concepts in a way that made sense to him, and helped him develop problem solving strategies to succeed in Algebra 2 and Pre Calculus. He went on to graduate from the University of Vermont with a degree in Secondary Education: Mathematics, and is currently a high school teacher in Vermont. Jean Marie continues to meet with our son as a mentor and an advisor, helping him with curriculum planning and classroom management strategies.
Jean Marie also worked with our twin daughters over a 4 year period. They were on an accelerated path throughout high school, always taking the hardest/honors level math classes. JM boosted their competence, and maybe more importantly, their confidence. She has techniques for diagnosing weaknesses, and follows up with exercises that address any lingering problems. She was able to manage their individual learning styles, and they both achieved outstanding grades and high scores on standardized tests.
JM knows the math, she's super organized, and maximizes every session. She's also particularly good at test prep, and our girls always felt fully prepared going into major exams.
We've had a long and productive relationship with Jean Marie, and she's had a material impact on the success of our children. Mamaroneck, NY Family
