Mercedes is an experienced Spanish teacher who spent four years in the Massachusetts Public School system. She formulated her own curriculum for 7th and 8th grade Spanish using the research-backed and highly effective Comprehensible Input methodology. Her focus in the classroom is on joyful, personal, story- and game-based learning that have shown to be highly effective in student language acquisition. This methodology does not focus on explicit grammar rules or memorization.
Mercedes began her teaching career in Washington D.C., where she taught Algebra 1 and Geometry at Ballou and Anacostia High Schools. Though she is a Spanish teacher, she enjoys helping students who struggle with foundational math concepts so that they can access grade-level curriculum!!
This year, she is substitute teaching in the NYC DOE while she gets certified to teach in New York State. Education and Certifications:
